Gurgaon: Cook robs employer’s house, loads valuables in Jaguar, speeds off

The Gurgaon Police is on the look out for a domestic help, hired a month ago, for allegedly robbing the house of his employer in a posh colony — Magnolia Apartments — on the Golf Course Road.

According to police, the man, who worked as a cook at the residence, loaded all the stolen valuables in his employer’s Jaguar car on Saturday evening and fled. His employer, Amit Rana, was on a business tour to Australia and his wife was also not home, police said.

Initial investigations have revealed that the accused had planned the robbery and closely watched the routine of his employers, police said. The wife was out for some work at the time of the incident and another help, charged with house maintenance, was also home at the time, police said.

“The accused took advantage of the situation and drugged the second domestic maid before fleeing with expensive items from the house in the car,” said Vikas Kaushik, SHO, Sushant Lok P S.

According to police, even though the net worth of the valuables including jewellery, cash, decorative items and LCD televisions could not be confirmed, the estimated cost is nearly Rs 1 crore. The accused, Shankar (25), a resident of Nepal, loaded all the valuables in the Jaguar car to go unchecked by the apartment security, police said.

Police, however, managed to recover the car an hour later near the residence. The accused is still on the run along with the rest of the stolen items, police said.

“Shankar had added some sort of drug in the food he cooked for the maid after which she became unconscious. Shankar then went to the master bedroom and broke open the cupboards and lockers there. He picked the car’s key and left the premises in Jaguar car,” a police official said.

According to police, Rana’s wife returned home the same evening. After noticing that the car was not parked in its spot and the unconscious maid in the room upstairs, she informed police.

An FIR was registered at Sushant Lok police station under Sections 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) against the accused. The car was recovered after a relative of the couple noticed it parked around half a kilometre away from the apartments. The Magnolia apartments, where several businessmen and local politicians have property, is under CCTV surveillance, police said. “We have some leads from the CCTV footage. The drugged food samples have been collected. We are trying to trace the accused and are also questioning the maid,” said a police official.
